NABBED SEVEN ACCUED PERSONS - FOR ILLEGALLY PROCURING AND SELLING OF COVID-19 ANTIVIRAL DRUGS I.E. COVIFOR (REMDESIVIR) AND CIPREMI INJECTIONS

On 17-07-2020, the sleuths of Commissioner’s Task Force, West Zone Team conducted raid in the limits of Asif Nagar PS and apprehended (7) accused persons by name 1) Mohd.Obaid, 2) Mohd.Afaq Ali, 3) Mohd.Majid Ali, 4) Abdul Aziz, 5) B.Raju, 6) N.Sunil and 7) M.Ravi who were procuring generic versions of Remdesivir and Cipremi Injections which are being used for Antiviral medicine for Covid-19 patients and selling the same on higher rates for earning money illegally. Seized (9) Remdesivir (Covifor) of Hetero and (1) Cipremi injection of Cipla from their possession. 

Particulars of accused:- 

1) Mohd.Obaid S/o Mohd.Abdul Quddus, aged 20 yrs, Occ: Working in Sameer Pharmacy, Asif Nagar Road, Mehdipatnam, R/o Murad Nagar, Asif Nagar, Hyderabad.

2) Mohd.Afaq Ali S/o Mohd.Sadiq Ali, aged 35 yrs, Occ: Glass fitting work, R/o H.No.9-4-5/A, Near Community Hall, Hakeempet, Hyderabad. 

3) Mohd.Majid Ali S/o Mohd.Sajjad Ali, aged 29 yrs, Occ: Salesman in “New Image Drug House”, Alijakotla, Charminar, R/o H.No.8-1-77/21, Surya nagar colony, Tolichowki, Hyderabad.

4) Abdul Aziz S/o Late Mohd.Abdul Sattar, aged 36 yrs, Occ: working in O.P. Pharmacy, Ground floor, Olive hospital, Nanal nagar x roads, Langer House, R/o Near Saleem café Hotel, Jirra Road, Asif Nagar, Hyderabad.

5) B.Raju S/o B.Sundaraiah, aged 26 yrs, Occ: Staff Nurse at Olive hospital, Nanal nagar x roads, Langer House, R/o Hostel at Khaderbagh, Nanalnagar, Langer House, Hyderabad, N/o Tandoor(V), Nagireddypalli(M), Nizamabad.

6) N.Sunil S/o N.Anand Rao, aged 26 yrs, Occ: Staff Nurse at Medisys hospital, LB Nagar, R/o Beside Medisys hospital, LB Nagar, Hyderabad, N/o Sirisanna-B(V), Jainath (M), Adilabad District.

7) M.Ravi S/o M.Thellaiah, aged 27 yrs, Occ: Staff Nurse at Olive hospital, Nanal nagar x roads, Langer House, R/o H.No.6/22, Near Pochamma Temple, Langer House, Hyderabad.


Modus operandi:-

The accused Abdul Aziz is working in “O.P. Pharmacy” at Ground floor, Olive hospital, Nanal nagar x roads, Langer House, Hyderabad. Due to Covid-19 incidents he observed that most of the public are coming to their pharmacy used to ask “Remdesivir (Covifor)” injection for the treatment of Covid-19 positive patients. As such he hatched a plan to gain easy money illegally by illegal procuring and selling of Covid Antiviral drugs on high price to needy customers. 

At the same time one of the staff members by name B.Raju, Staff Nurse at Olive Hospital, Nanal nagar x roads, Langer House, Hyderabad informed him that he will supply “Remdesivir” injection for Rs.19,000/- to him. (The injection actual price is Rs.5,400/-) as his friend by name N.Sunil, Staff Nurse at Medisys hospital, LB Nagar is supplying the same to him for Rs.6,500/-. At the same time the accused M.Ravi is also informed the accused Mohd.Aziz that he will also supply Remdesivir injection to him for Rs.10,000/-. As such the accused Mohd.Aziz was decided to sell Remdesivir injections to the needy customers on higher rates to earn money illegally. And purchased (11) Remdesivir Injections and (1) Cipremi Injection from the accused M.Raju and M.Ravi. 

Later the accused Abdul Aziz sold the same injections to accused Mohd.Majid Ali for Rs.20,000/- per one injection. Later the accused Mohd.Majid Ali informed the accused Mohd.Afaq Ali who is friend and informed him that he is having “Remdesivir” injection and asked to sell the same on higher rates. The accused Afaq Ali informed the same to accused persons Mohd.Obaid who is his friend and also working in Sameer Pharmacy, Asif Nagar Road, Mehdipatnam, Hyderabad and sell the same injection for Rs.28,000/- to them. The accused Mohd.Obaid with the collusion of the hospital management i.e. “Sameer Hospital”, Mehdipatnam, Hyderabad decided to sell “Remdesivir” injections in pharmacy i.e. Sameer Pharmacy, inside Sameer Hospital, Mehdipatnam, Hyderabad on higher rates and looking for the prospective customers to sell Remdesivir injections on higher rates to earn money illegally. 

In this case, the accused persons B.Raju, N.Sunil and M.Ravi who were working as staff nurses in different hospitals are selling the injections i.e. Remdesivir (Covifor) of Hetero and Cipremi of Cipla illegally which are supposed to use for Covid patients in their hospitals. The accused persons Mohd.Obaid and Abdul Aziz are illegally selling the Remdesivir injections in their Medical shops on high prices without any doctor medical prescription and bill to needy customers and gain illegal easy money.

On 17-07-2020 all the accused persons met with each other and while discussing about the selling of Remdesivir (Covifor) of Hetero and Cipremi of Cipla injections, in the meantime the West Zone Task Force team apprehended them along with the said injections.   

PROCEDURE OF SALE/USE OF ABOVE MENTIONED DRUGS:
It has been clearly mentioned on the box that the medicine is supposed to be meant for institutional/Hospital sale only. Remdesivir drug comes with a consent form that has to be filled and signed by the patient/attendants and concerned doctor at the time of administration of drug. A copy of consent form has to be handed over to patient or attendants. It is the duty of the institution to ensure availability of consent form all the time especially during inspection by CDSCO/DCGI. 

The accused persons along with seized material were handed over to SHO, Asif Nagar PS for taking further action.

      The arrests were made under the supervision of Sri P.Radha Kishan Rao, Dy.Commissioner of Police, Commissioner’s Task Force, by Sri B.Gattu Mallu, Inspector of Police, Commissioner’s Task Force, West Zone team along with SIs Sri P.Mallikarjun, Sri Md.Mujaffar Ali, Sri N.Ranjith Kumar and the staff of West Zone team, Commissioner’s Task Force, Hyderabad City.
